Activistenpartij Candidate for Faculty of Law (PPLE)
For people, not profits.
As someone that grew up in Turkey, it is extremely disheartening to see the Netherlands follow in Turkey’s footsteps, by implementing drastic cuts to higher education budgets and cracking down harshly on student protests. Having struggled with burnout last year, and knowing that mental health resources are often the first to be cut to save money, I want to be elected to the Faculty Council to fight so that this does not become the case in PPLE. Similarly, I believe our mandatory attendance policy to be too restrictive and would like to push for mental health struggles to be accepted as a valid reason to miss tutorials. Moreover, I’d like to ensure students can raise their voices by trying to ensure that the police don’t intervene in students’ protests. Lastly, considering how decolonial and feminist perspectives are tacked on to courses rather than being explored fully, and how the orientalist and misogynist roots of some theories are skipped during lectures, I want to encourage lecturers to focus more on these topics and narratives.
