Activistenpartij Candidate for Faculty of Social Sciences.
No more. The time is now: Decolonize, Decarbonize, Democratize.
I am Carlos Fitton Gómez – a working, second year political science honours student specialising in International Relations. I have been an active member of the Activistenpartij for the last half year, specifically focusing on the struggle for Palestinian liberation among other politically salient topics such as the fight against human-caused climate change and the fight for worker and student rights. Moreover, I am also chair of Machiavelli’s Presidium.
My motivations for campaigning are many. Firstly, I want to increase the pressure from within the FSR FMG so as to force the UvA to cut ties not only with Israeli institutions that help commit genocide, but also with oil and gas companies among other polluters that are currently destroying our world’s ecosystems. As social science students, we are well aware of the societal implications both of these events have for our collective future. It is thus our responsibility to stand up and say no more, not in our name. Secondly, it is high time that students’ ideas and perspectives are taken seriously at a faculty level. Our university needs to be transformed, bottom up, so as to make it a democratic institution whose path is chosen by both students and staff and not by an unaccountable administration sat upon their Ivory Tower. To do so, I will seek to restructure official FSR FMG communication channels to make the council more responsive to the student population.
